Deepak Punia is the new and upcoming Indian Freestyle wrestler who won gold at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham, 2022. The reigning Commonwealth champion in the 86 Kg weight category rose to fame after winning a silver medal at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in the freestyle 86 kg category and secured a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Coming from a family of wrestlers, Deepak was introduced to the sport of wrestling when he was just four years old. He started his formal training in 2015 at the Chhatrasal Stadium under the able guidance of his coaches.
